Tasting Notes

The perfect dish.

Oodles of Japanese Udon noodles, bathed in a tangy sauce, fresh vegetables their taste intact and shrimps with a spicy sauce.

A slice of rustic, crusty on the outside, chewy on the inside with salty olives throughout., bread; a great accompaniment to this delightful dinner.

What You Need.

2 frozen portions of frozen Udon noodles. The noodles usually are packaged in three portions.

3 green onions.

1 1/2 cups of frozen Edamame beans (Japanese)readily available in most supermarkets.

1 large carrot.

10 stalks of asparagus.

10 large frozen shrimps.

3 tablespoons butter.

2 garlic cloves.

2 tablespoons of vegetable oil.

2 tablespoons peanut butter.

1 tablespoon honey.

2 tablespoons soya sauce.

1 tablespoon sweet Thai chilli sauce.

2 garlic cloves.


1 large pot.

1 large frying pan.

1 medium-sized frying pan.

1 colander.

1 medium-sized bowl.


Clean up your veggies, breaking off the stems of your asparagus stalks, then slicing them diagonally. For your carrot, slice it thinly in long strips. Cut the ends off your green onions and their tops so that only the fresh green parts remain, then slice diagonally. Slice your garlic thinly. Take out your frozen Edamame beans. Set all vegetables aside.

Place your shrimps into the colander, running cold water over them till unthawed. Then set aside.

Combine the peanut butter, honey, sesame oil, soya sauce and the Thai chilli sauce in a large bowl, mix well and set aside.

Heat a pot of water to the boiling point, cook the Udon noodles for 1-3 minutes, whatever is recommended on the package.  Drain, rinse well with cold water, repeat. Let sit in the strainer while you prepare everything else. 

Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large non-stick frying pan.  Add the garlic, all the veggies, and sauté until crisp tender. Set aside to cool slightly. 

Add the drained Udon noodles, the sauteed veggies, to the bowl with the sauce in it. Toss gently until ingredients are well combined.  

In another frying pan, add your oil and turn the heat to medium high, then add your shrimp and cook each side for two minutes. Once done, add the shrimps to the butter, hot sauce, mixture. Stir well.

Slice your bread.

You are now ready to serve.
