Tasting Notes
Hearty, satisfying, good ole comfort food. A gravy to die for perfect for the extra silky, smooth, mashed potatoes.
The salad cuts through the richness of the dish.
It serves four – four amazing beef patties with mashed potatoes, peas, and a salad.
What You Need
1 1/2 pound ground beef.
1 egg.
1/4 cup breadcrumbs.
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce.
2 teaspoons salt.
1 teaspoon pepper.
2 medium-sized onions, sliced.
1 teaspoon of dried thyme or 4 sprigs.
2 cups beef broth.
5 medium-sized potatoes.
3/4 cup of mayonnaise.
20 cherry tomatoes, cut in half, the smaller ones you can leave whole.
6 small cucumbers or 2 medium-sized ones, sliced.
6 tablespoons olive oil.
2 tablespoons white vinegar.
2 cups frozen peas, if you have fresh so much better.
Equipment
1 large frying pan.
1 large pot.
2 medium-sized bowls.
1 microwaveable dish.
Method
Beef patties.
In a large bowl mix your Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, egg, breadcrumbs well with the ground beef.
Form four patties about 3/4 inch thick.
Set aside.
Pre-heat your frying pan to medium heat and then add 2 table spoons of the olive oil, followed by the beef patties. Cook each side for about four minutes each and once they are nicely browned on each side take them out and set aside on a platter.
Add three more tablespoons of olive olive to the same pan and then add your onions. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Cook and stir for a few minutes on medium heat. Once the onions are translucent add the thyme and stir. Now turn the heat down to medium low and let the onions cook for 20 minutes or so, stirring every once in a while. Once the onions are nice and brown add your beef stock. Turn heat to high and boil for about two minutes, then add your beef patties and turn heat to simmer. Cook for 10 minutes.
The Potatoes
Cut them up in quarters.
Put in salted boiling water in pot and cook for 20 minutes, until tender.
Once done, drain and put them back into the pot. Season with salt and pepper and add the mayonnaise.
The mayonnaise makes the potatoes extra creamy and if you have leftovers they will still be delicious later.
Mash them thoroughly.
The Salad.
Put all your tomatoes and cucumbers in a bowl. Add your 4 tablespoons of oil and 2 tablespoons of vinegar, salt and pepper.
Mix well.
The Peas
Take your peas and microwave for three minutes or cook in boiling water for three minute.
Presto, you are ready to plate.
