One of the world’s most iconic landmarks is back.
Five years ago a devastating fire almost burned it to the ground – Notre- Dame Cathedral, a Parisian landmark dating back to 12th. Century.
But today this Gothic jewel has been restored – the statistics staggering.
- Almost 2,000 construction workers and artisans worked on it.
- When it officially reopens on Saturday, Dec. 10, daily visitors are expected to be 40,000.
- Before the fire 12 million people visited the cathedral each year.
- More than 450,000 square feet of cream-coloured Cathedral limestone have been stripped of centuries-old grime, creating a startlingly bright look.
- The restoration cost more than $900 million (U.S.).
- More than 2,000 oak trees from throughout France were used to rebuilt wooden structures and facades.
- Below two videos.
