Jim Pescott

Jim Pescott loves trees – the green luscious kind.

Walking amidst lush green forests empower him, inspire him, drive him, enhance him, validate him.

Bob’s journey into the woods is the poetic kind.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,

But I have promises to keep.

And miles to go before I sleep,

And miles to go before I sleep.”

Robert Frost, Stopping by Woods on a Snowing Evening

For Jim the promises are painting – pointillism style.

It’s the technique of using small, distinct dots of colour, applying them in a pattern, resulting in a painting.

The painting becomes a sum of all its dots.

The technique, first used by two well-known French painter Georges Seurat and Paul Signac.

Jim’s painting career started later in life.

He remembers it this way.

“Yes, there was an aha moment back when I was 45. I remember thinking I wished I was 65 so I could do the things I really wanted to do. Basically, I was wishing 20 years if my life away and this is what got me thinking. At the time I was working at a national level role in the insurance industry.”

“For many, many years, there’s been nothing more satisfying for me than a walk in the woods to soothe my being. It’s about connecting with nature, the feelings this brings and sensing the spirit of the trees. I have enjoyed this since my early years when exploring the forests.”

And there is a parallel in painting and those amazing trees.

“Trees always inspire me, old tree are treasures to enjoy”.

He is self taught, no lessons, no workshops.

His vibrant, ethereal, paintings have shown in international venues since 2003.

One, the historic Societe National des Beaux-Artes at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, France.

Also his paintings have won numerous international awards, in France, the United States, and Canada.

Galleries throughout North America, parts of Asia and Europe have shown his works.
